SPACE DOME

Today we went inside the Space Dome. You can actually see Venus when you look at the sky at night time. Mia didn't know you will only be able to see the full moon on Monday and Tuesday next week. If you look at the full moon it will be too bright to see the craters and could hurt your eyes. The rings around Saturn can disappear sometimes because they are very thin. If you go outside at 6pm tonight you might see some constellations and you will see Venus and Jupiter. You will always see the Southern Cross if you are in the Southern Hemisphere. Some of the constellations are a dog, a man, a lion and a scorpion. The man has a belt called Orion's Belt. Jupiter has more than 63 moons. Leo the lion constellation is upside down when we look at it because the people who named it lived in the Northern Hemisphere.

These are some of the facts we learned today.

SPACE ODYSSEY

Science Alive came today to teach the children about the sun, moon, earth and the planets.  I know we all learned some new facts.  Hopefully the children will share some of their learning with you.

DANCING GINGERBREAD MEN

One of the reading groups read a book this week called Dancing Gingerbread Men. We thought it would be FUN to make some. The children had to write their opinions as to why it was a good idea to make gingerbread men at school and think about what they would learn.  They had a great time making them this afternoon with Miss Duncraft and I hope they enjoy eating them!

Road Safety

Today the children had a special visitor who taught them about road safety - Ronald McDonald!
The children learned about sneaky driveways and why they need to check the driveway for cars leaving and the importance of checking for cars that may be turning into the driveway.  Ronald McDonald reinforced 'stop, look and listen' when crossing roads. He also reminded the children that when walking on the footpath they should walk on the house side.  The children all knew they should put their seatbelt on when they get in a car and make it click.
